C.B. Victoria’s COME AND SEE MY MAN
In 1965, young Canadian emigre Edwin Coppard joined The Deacons, which evolved into the Hollywood Shockers. Eventually, they shortened their name to The Shockers, becaming good enough to open for Billy Preston and The Everly Brothers.
Soon, Edwin joined Penny Whistle and then Trilogy the following year. Neither of the short-lived groups had much pop success.
As the calendar turned over into a new decade, Coppard was performing solo under the name C.B. Victoria. He had two minor hits with COME AND SEE MY MAN, which reached number 19, and I DON’T BELIEVE IN MIRACLES which reached number 65. Both on the Canadian charts, and both sounding very Elton John-like.
Flash forward to the next decade. In 1986, Edwin realized he could teach anyone to sing. Two years later, he is teaching a ‘Life Mastery Course’ for motivational guru Tony Robbins. While having barely touched the blinding pop spotlight, Edwin would go to his grave teaching, when in Japan he died unexpectedly on May 9, 2019.
