Chubby Checker : SLOW TWISTIN'

Written by Jon Sheldon, SLOW TWISTIN’  was recorded by Chubby Checker with assistance from soul songwriter Dee Dee Sharp. Sharp was uncredited on the single and early albums.

Released on 45 in 1962, it peaked at number three on both the Billboard Hot 100 and the R&B singles chart. In Canada, it reached number eighteen.

The Marvelettes covered the song (as SLOW TWIST) on their 1962 album The Marvelettes Sing.

A different version of SLOW TWISTIN’ includes lead vocals by Dee Dee and features Chubby's assistance along with different lyrics. It appeared on Dee Dee Sharp’s 1962 LP, It’s Mashed Potato Time. 

Two years after this recording, Dee Dee became engaged to Muhammad Ali. Ultimately, she married record producer extraordinaire Kenny Gamble.
