Ella Washington’s THE BALLAD OF ARTHUR MCDUFFIE
In 1979, Arthur McDuffie, a Black insurance salesman and Marine Lance Corporal, was beaten to death by four Miami police officers after a traffic stop.
When the officers were tried and acquitted, a riot broke out in the Overtown and Liberty City neighborhoods on the night of 17 May 1980.
The three days of rioting that followed, resulted in at least 18 deaths. A terrible event. And the worst part is, almost 50 years later it is still happening..
