Pinback button, 1.5 inches, 1984.

condition: G (some yellowing and spotting)

In 1984, ZTT's Paul Morley designed a series of "FRANKIE SAY..." T-shirts to promote the record label's chart act Frankie Goes to Hollywood.

Morley explained that his designs were based onEnglish fashion designer Katharine Hamnett's slogan T-shirts, "What persuaded me was reading Katharine Hamnett saying she wanted the T-shirts ripped off..."

The official FGTH designs were particularly successful, and spawned many imitations of their own. The campaign knockoffs often have a misspelling: Frankie Says not Frankie Say .This is an original pinback button., purchased at the merch table on November 11, 1984 at FGTH first show in America at Irvine Auditorium, Philadelphia.
