Begun as a gospel outfit, The McCrarys formed in 1972. Howard McCrary, the song-writer, was joined by two sisters — Linda and Charity — and two brothers — Sam and Alfred — in the group. They soon shifted into the R&B world, eventually touring with The O’Jays, Gladys Knight, and The Jacksons.
