Critique was originally launched in Bath, Maine in the late 60s by Carl Strube, In 1983, it was revived in Massachusetts with a focus on Modern Soul and Electro. But 1995, they had partnered with Japanese music giant Avex Group to create the joint-venture label Avex-Critique. Two years later, that project was shuttered.
