Along with her friends and fellow recording artists Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn, Dottie West is considered one of country's most influential and groundbreaking female artists. In 1965, she was the first woman in country music to receive a Grammy Award.

In the early 1970s, West wrote COUNTRY SUNSHINE, a popular commercial for the Coca-Cola company, which reached number two on Billboard's Hot Country Singles. In the late 1970s, she teamed up with country pop superstar Kenny Rogers for a series of duets, earning platinum-selling albums and more number-one records.

Dottie’s daughter is Shelly West. Her granddaughter is Tess Frizzell.
