J.A.M. (Jersey Artists for Mankind) was a non-profit organization of Jersey Shore musicians benefiting local charities. Begun in 1985, the project was inspired by the super group USA For Africa and their charity single WE ARE THE WORLD. The idea behind J.A.M. was to use a cross-section of artists, not just those with well-known names and record deals. A representative from every band in The Garden State was invited to come to The Stone Pony and help out with the choruses of the these two songs – the basic tracks were already recorded. More than 450 Jersey singers and musicians were recorded.
