Hit Records, 1964.
vinyl condition: G (some surface noise)
Founded in 1962, Hit Records was a Nashville-based label operated by William Beasley. Hit specialized in releasing cover versions of pop hits, selling for 39 cents (less than half the price of the major label originals) in five-and-dime stores and supermarkets.
Beasley also operated Giant Records, a sub-label, which released cover versions of popular country hits. William’s location gave his labels access to top-1notch musicians and vocalists (many of which cut their teeth working on these cover versions.) At various moments, his roster included Ray Stevens, Sam Moore, Sandy Posey and Bobby Russell.
Facing competition from other budget labels, Hit was shuttered in 1969.
