This version of the song by Sonny is the original and would be used as the theme for The Mary Tyler Moore Show. It was never offered as a consumer release. Although a few years later, Sonny would record a more country version that was released by Elektra.
Sonny was a member of the Crickets and continued with the band, as lead vocals and guitar, after Buddy Holly's untimely death.
